UK Visas & Immigration To Charge For Emails
Posted on 1st June 2017 in News
UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) are to charge customers who contact them by email from 1st June.
The move is part of wider changes that are being introduced as UKVI outsources the handling of customer enquiries to commercial partner Sitel UK.
The charge of £5.48 will apply to those applying from outside the UK, and will include the first email enquiry and any follow-up emails to and from the contact centre relating to the same enquiry.
The GOV.uk websites states that the changes "help the government reduce costs and ensure those who benefit directly from the UK immigration system make an appropriate contribution."
The other changes applicable to those applying outside the UK are:
- all phone numbers and opening hours will change
- the number of languages offered will reduce to eight, including English
Applicants will need to pay the email charge using a credit or debit card.
There are no changes to services for those contacting UKVI from inside the UK.
